Thus, continues your careful manipulation of x's and y's

Algebra is the foundation of all mathematics to follow. Students will study the following topic areas: number systems and number sense; expressions, equations, and inequalities; functions; linear functions; quadratic equations and functions; exponential and log functions, and polynomial functions.  This course improves a student’s development of problem-solving skills and effective communication of possible solutions.

Week 9: This week we will begin a week long data gathering project.  We will go out each day to measure the height of a plant.  We will then use our data to make a scatter plot, determine if there is a correlation, and if there is a correlation, we will predict the height of our plant.  We will also begin our unit covering the topic of graphing quadratic functions.

Week 1: We will investigate the rules of exponents and celebrate Pi Day.

Week 2: We will investigate negative and zero exponents, discover imaginary numbers and compute weighted averages.  After taking our first quiz, we will start adding, subtracting and multiplying polynomials.

Week 3: We will be continuing our unit on polynomials this week.  We will be dividing polynomials as well as finding the greatest common factor of their terms.  We will also investigate how to factor the difference of squares and the sum and difference of cubes. We will also take our quiz this week.

Week 4: This week we will complete our unit on Polynomials.  We will learn two methods to factor general polynomials.  We will also review and take our test before Spring Break.

Week 5: Welcome back!  This week we will use our skills of ballancing equations and solving for x and solve absolute value equations and linear inequalities.

Week 6: This week we will finish our unit over absolute value equations and inequalities.  We will conclude our unit with a test on Friday.

Week 7: This week we will begin our unit on Systems of Linear Equations.  We will begin with solving by using graphs.  Then we will learn the elimination and substitution methods.

Week 8: This week we will expand our knowledge of solving systems of linear equations to solving systems of linear inequalities.  We will conclude our unit with a test on Thursday.
