Thus begins your careful manipulation of x's and y's.

(try not to drop any negatives)

Algebra is the foundation of all mathematics to follow. Students will study the following topic areas: number systems and number sense; expressions, equations, and inequalities; functions; linear functions; quadratic equations and functions; exponential and log functions, and polynomial functions.  This course improves a student’s development of problem-solving skills and effective communication of possible solutions.

Week 9: During this week we will conclude our unit on absolute value equations and inequalities.  Our assessment will be taken at the beginning of week 10.

Week 1: We will add and multiply integers and real numbers.  We will also look at the commutative and associative properties.  On Friday we will celebrate Pi Day!

Week 2: This week we will use the distributive property and take our first quiz.  Next we will investigate the rules of exponents.

Week 3: This week we will finish our unit on Properties of Real Numbers.  We will discuss values of zero and negative exponents, imaginary numbers and weighted averages.  Following we will review and assess our knowledge.

Week 4: This week we will discuss evaluating expressions and using the order of opperations.  We will also look at fractional exponents and special properties of integers.  Before our break we will take a quiz to assess our knowledge of this unit.

Week 5: Welcome back!  This week we will begin our unit on polynomails.  We will begin by adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.

Week 6: This week we will continue our polyomial unit.  This week we will begin to undo the multiplication and factor trinomials.

Week 7: This week we will conclude our work with polynomials and take our test.  Then we will begin our unit of solving for x.  It will be important for us to show our steps during the first simple problems so we will be able to do it when our problems get more complicated.

Week 8: This week we will continue to solve equations for x and take a quiz.  Afterwards, we will use all our skills to solve absolute value equations and inequalities for x.
